September 18 - NICU Day 7

Text to Family:
Little man has some oxygen on this morning. He had a few de-sats (de-saturization of oxygen) in the night. They want that number above 90. His only got to the low 80s mostly but he got down to 68 at one point. The oxygen is only turned on to 21% which is as low as it will go). The nurses assure me that this is pretty normal for teeny babes to need this when they transition to oral feeds and eat lots and are working to keep their own temp up. Thankful for nurses knowing how to help him keep growing. His feedings went really well last night (50 ml at 1, 55 ml at 4) and just barely at 7 (60 ml)! He is eating between 10 & 45 mL above what he is required per feeding! Good thing I came this morning at 6:30 because he was chomping at the bit and pissed and ready to eat. Temp. is still looking good in his new bed. No labs today. Just one follow up one to check jaundice levels tomorrow. Still no IV or feeding tube! Prayers for today could include praying that little Crosby can breathe deeply and well and lose thr new face mask (oxygen). (I can tell he hates it in his nose and it keeps making him sneeze.) And that he will continue to feed orally and well. And that he can gain weight and go home! Love you all!!!

Just got report from the doc. He said "Crosby is doing really well." He says the amount of oxygen he's on is equivalent to the air in San Diego - Utah's high altitude makes it harder for tiny ones to adjust. Crosby wouldn't eat at 10. He was just too tired. I was nervous we'd have to put the feeding tube back in, but the doc gave permission to do a 24 hour trial run where he can just eat as much as he wants whenever he wants. Please continue to pray for him to take oral feedings only and enough that his little body can grow. And also, that he can wean off of oxygen. Doc says he sees the end of Crosby's NICU stay in 2-5 days. Overall really good report. But guys, this NICU business is no joke. It's a bunch of bull$#@&! It's so HARD. On our entire little family. Bryan & I are TIRED. Andlie, Haze and Nora are TIRED. Would you please add all of us to your prayers too? Thank you all. Love you!!

Other Highlights
Andlie made me & Bryan hospital passes.
Crosby was prayed for by name in Sacrament meeting today at our ward.
Haze & Andlie got to meet Crosby today! (Nora couldn't come because she isn't five years old yet.) They had to come back one at a time and they both had to do the mandatory 5 minute hand wash and wear a mask. They were both so sweet with him, but Haze was especially tender and concerned for his well-being.

Home away from home. My view every morning at 6:30 am.

Life is still moving along nicely at home thanks to Daddy (and many other helping hands).
